Unreal Development Kit

Hey guys, I’ve had the change to play with the kit for about a week now and I must say I love it. I’ve been using the unreal 3 engine for over 2 and a half years and I’ve dug into the engine and obtained an incredible amount of knowledge about it throughout these couple of years.

Now that Epic release the UDK things took a massive turn for me. Not only did I get a bunch of new toys to play with, everything that I already knew was dramatically improved. The rendering engine is much more powerful and precise. The interface works wonderful. The speed improvement is simply awesome and best of all the ability to widely distribute content freely with out having to have you audience have to purchase software to play your content.

So where am I getting with this? Well since the majority of the gaming work I do is with the Unreal engine and since before I really wasn’t possible to be able to freely distribute content for people. What this means for you guys is that I will be able to add content and game levels and such for you and you can easily have access to it and be able to play my work for once.

So expect to see and play some content from me soon.

Exploration Project WIP

•October 13, 2009 • Leave a Comment

This is a current work in progress (WIP) of my current exploration project that I’m doing. I’m really trying out new texturing techniques and having a space that tells a story or at least seems like its been used. Currently the place is fairly empty as the majority of the assetts still have to be created.

It should be at least able to give you a brief sense of where the project is heading. Alot of things will change. This is probably the third transformation this project has seen and with each one came tons of new knowledge and new ways of crafting things.  I’ll post new images and revisions of the project as they come so you guys check out how it’s progressing.

Practice Head

Front

Side

I’m trying to get more and more into higher end 3D since thats really the industry standard for detailing Next-Gen Characters and assets. This is a practice head that I’m working on. It’s still in it’s pretty early stages. I’m trying to get as much out of some of these small practice project as I can in terms of technique and such.

Texturing this should be fun. I was using myself as a reference to try and flesh out some of the details in the human face. So far so good. I’ll post up more progress as it come closer to being finished.

Who knows, a whole character of me may be born from this head.

New piece in the series. I Worked with similar elements as the previous two. Still going with a very expressive and emotion filled piece.

I decided to work with yellow as my main color since its a color that don’t normally focus a full piece on.  It was an interesting change and I had a lot of fun with it.

Enjoy.

Title: Passion

This is a new style that I’ve been working on. I had a good time making this and exploring a new color that I’ve never used before.

This is an exploration of color and movement and how they relate to one another. I’m trying to portray some of the passion that goes into creating art. Its an act full of many emotions and so much movement, yet all those action are usually disguised and never seen.

I really enjoyed creating this piece and thinking of all the design placements.

Who is Jarlan Perez?

Some say he’s lone wanderer looking for vengeance on all who have done him wrong?

An ancient warrior brought back to an era where his people needed him most. During a time when slavery and death plagued his people, this warrior rose to meet the face of evil and take back what rightfully belongs to the them.

Just some fun, But I’m sure that in an alternate universe floating in the mist of darkness I would be just like that.

Anyways a little about me. I’m a cross discipline artist, meaning I can do more than just one thing. I work a lot in creating game content and many things dealing with the entertainment industry. This is where the cross discipline comes in, I do 3d and 2d art, conceptual work, 3d modeling and animation, video game modeling and asset creation, Texture artist and I also like to write.

I love doing personal work as well, its a great way for me to get all my backed up ideas out so my mind doesn’t internally implode.

I will be updating this as often as I am able to. I’ll add personal work and other pieces that I will be working on so make sure that you subscribe so you don’t miss a thing. If I were you I would do that right now and get it out of the way. Just click the upper right hand orange looking-thing that says subscribe and that’s it. pretty simple.

Well that’s it for now make sure you check back soon so you don’t miss a thing even though that shouldn’t be a problem since you already subscribed about three sentences ago.

Til next time.
